Sainthamaruthu is the face of the southern entrance of the south-eastern Kalmunai city. Near its main road entrance is the art gallery Km/Km/Malharush Shams School.
On April 01, 1832, the name of Muslim Kalavan Padasalai was started by the Southern rulers of Mat/Sainthamaru due to the efforts of Rasa Vasal Ketmuldiyar Marham MS Gariyapar, who was one of the pioneers of Muslim politics in the political history of Sri Lanka. It is situated in the south-east of the town near the beautiful beach.
Marhum A. P. M. Ibrahim acted as the founding principal of this school which was started with 31 male students and 27 female students. with him K. Lakshami, a teacher, was also on duty. So far 16 principals have served.

In the late 1980s, the name of Mat/Sainthamaruthu South Government Muslim mixed School was changed to Km/Km/Malharus Shams Maha Vidyalaya. The exhibition held for 03 consecutive days during the period took the school to a high place. Then there were returns up to grade 7.
In 1992, permission was granted to hold Co-op.T (S/T) classes and in 1965, the first batch students appeared for the Ordinary Level Examination. In 1999, an attempt was made to get permission for the G.P.D. In 2002, for the first time, all the students who appeared for the higher level examination and 07 students entered the university. 04 students went to College of Education. Commerce department was started in 2002 and in 2004 the first batch appeared for high level examination.
Especially the period from 1998 to 2004 of this school had a special place. During this period, physical development, co-curricular activities such as Tamil Language Day and English Language Day were held in competitions. Winning at the regional and provincial levels, 34 students participating in the national school level expert competition in 2008 and all of them getting 2nd and 3rd place and the energy expression of the students in Saranyam was significant.
Today this school is exclusively for female students in Sainthamarthu Division, the level of educational achievement, public examination. In courses with commerce sections, students can progress faster. Presently MR.MS.Naffar is serving as the Principal since 28.12.2023. .
